Pycnogenol Overview
Pycnogenol® is a patented extract of the bark of the French maritime pine tree. Pycnogenol contains a blend of active compounds including oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) as well as several other active bioflavonoids. Pycnogenol acts as a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and protector of cardiovascular health. With its ability to reduce lower “bad” cholesterol and reduce high blood pressure, it has received a lot of attention for its role as a heart health protector. Pycnogenol aids in the production of endothelial nitric oxide which helps to dilate blood vessels, strengthens blood vessel walls and capillaries and supports a better circulation by preventing stress-induced constriction of arteries and blood clotting. More than 230 scientific articles and clinical trials have confirmed Pycnogenol’s safety and efficacy over the past 40 years.
