The results of yet another study suggest that soy may be a magic bean for breast health. The results indicate that soy isoflavones may lower the incidence of breast cancer and may also benefit benign fibrocystic breast conditions, which affect over 60% of women.
Researchers found that women with increased blood levels of the soy isoflavones genistein and daidzein had a reduced risk of both fibrocystic breast conditions and breast cancer. Those who had the highest plasma levels of genistein were 74% less likely to develop breast cancer and 60% less likely to develop fibrocystic breasts, compared to women with low levels. The Anti-Aging Bottom Line: 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their life. More and more, research is showing that a woman may be able to reduce her risk and improve overall breast health by adding soy isoflavones to her supplements regimen or to her diet in the form of minimally proccessed soy foods like edamame, miso and tempeh.
