The list of the amazing benefits of green tea just keeps on growing. According to a Taiwanese clinical trial, women with a BMI of greater than 27 who took 400 mg of green tea extract three times a day for 12 weeks experienced significant reduction in LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and marked increase in the level of HDL-cholesterol, adiponectin and ghrelin. (Hsua C-H, et al. Clinical Nutrition. 27(3):363-370, 2008, doi:10.1016/j.clnu.2008.03.007.) Adiponectin is a hormone produced by fat cells that promotes sensitivity to insulin. Ghrelin is a hormone that relays messages between the digestive system and the brain and works to stimulate appetite.

The Anti-Aging Bottom Line: Improve your health by taking at least 400 mg of green tea extract three times a day. You may improve your cholesterol profile while taking advantage of green tea’s multitude of other health benefits at the same time.
