Does your Multi-Nutrient Formula benefit both men and women?
Yes. Our formula is equally beneficial for both men and women,
because the basic causes of aging and chronic disease are the
same, regardless of gender. Note that the Formula does not
contain iron, which after a certain age can accelerate aging and
promote heart disease, Parkinson's disease, and possibly other
chronic diseases.
Men past age 18 and women after menopause should not take
iron supplements unless recommended by a health professional.
Some, but not all younger women (premenopausal) may want to take
an extra daily 18 mg of iron if they feel they need it.

What's the best age to start taking the Multi-Nutrient Formula?
Anyone 18 or older can take the full 6 pills daily as an
excellent multi-vitamin, mineral, antioxidant pill. After age 28,
the Formula is even more important. That's the age at which the
detrimental effects of aging begin to kick in, says the
father of the free radical theory of aging, Denham Harman, MD,
University of Nebraska. It's the age the primary cause of death
shifts from accidents and youth-related infections to age-related
chronic diseases, he says, and antioxidants become much more
important in saving your life.

When is the best time to take the pills?
Be sure to take the Multi-Nutrient Formula and other vitamins,
minerals and antioxidants with food, with a morning or evening
meal. You need some fat to absorb fat-soluble vitamins, such as
E, A and D. If you take vitamins on an empty stomach, you do not
get the full benefits.

What is the shelf life of your supplements?
Our supplements are made to maintain potency for at least two
years after manufacture. Check the expiration dates on the
labels.

Why does my urine turn deeper yellow after taking your Multi-Nutrient Formula?
It is normal after taking a high dose of riboflavin, a B vitamin,
to see a more yellow urine as an indication of the presence of
the vitamin in your system. It is the same as the changes in the
urine you may get from eating certain foods, such as asparagus
and beets. The yellow is a reminder you have taken your pills
that day, and that they were digested.

Should I store your supplements in the refrigerator?
No. It is best to store them in a dry, cool cupboard or on a counter. Follow the label instructions.
Do you use natural or synthetic vitamin E?
Our products contain natural d-alpha-tocopheryl, which is more
potent than synthetic (dl-alpha-tocopheryl).
The Multi-Nutrient Formula also contains "mixed"
tocopherols, including gamma and delta. Thus, you get not just
the alpha form of vitamin E, but a range of others considered
important for health.

How can I be sure your pills disintegrate properly and contain what the label says?
Our supplements are made in Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-inspected facilities, according to the standards of the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) a national organization that sets industry and governmental standards for the manufacture of dietary supplements.
We also regularly submit the pills to an independent laboratory for confirmation of disintegration and dissolution and verification of label claims.

How do I know I am getting the right amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants when I take your supplements, especially your Multi-Nutrient Formula?
The doses in the Formula conform to the latest scientific
research of what is needed for optimal health. For example,
recent studies show that 800 mcg folic acid (not 400 mcg
typically found in multis) is an optimal dose for suppressing
homocysteine (a blood protein) implicated in heart disease and
Alzheimer's disease. And new research shows that older people who
took 800 mcg daily for two years had brains that functioned like
those of people five years younger.

Are the amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in the Multi-Nutrient Formula safe?
The doses in our Multi Nutrient Formula meet the upper safety
limits for individual ingredients, as set by the National Academy
of Sciences

I have read or heard that the dose or a specific ingredient in your formula could be hazardous. Commonly mentioned: vitamin E, chromium picolinate, beta carotene and vitamin. Can I safely continue to take your supplement?
Occasionally, news reports appear, questioning the advisability or safety of a common supplement ingredient or doctors who do not have all the facts, and needlessly alarm their patients. Since I personally am taking my supplements, you can be sure I stay on top of all safety research; any hazard is extremely remote because the margins of safety are large and the ingredients were carefully chosen because of their long-time safety record.
I regularly consult top experts in specific vitamins, minerals and antioxidants about safety issues as they arise. For example, high doses of beta carotene are not recommended for current smokers. My formula contains a mere 1.5 milligrams. U.S. Department of Agriculture experts say up to 5 mg of beta carotene daily in a supplement is safe for smokers.

What about reports that over 200 IU of vitamin E is too high and could be dangerous?
Such reports have been thoroughly refuted by leading experts in
vitamin E. A recent National Institutes of Health study of 40,000
women found that those who took 600 IU of vitamin E every other
day for ten years had no signs of harm. Further, they had a 24
percent lower risk of death from heart disease.

Some of your supplements overlap in certain ingredients, such as coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid. Is there any danger of getting too much of any one ingredient?
No. The supplements are all formulated so that overlaps don't mount up to any significant accumulation that could cause toxicity. The supplements are set well below toxic levels for all ingredients.

If I take your Multi-Nutrient Formula, do I need to take other vitamins and minerals, such as calcium and B vitamins?
The 800 mg of calcium in my Formula is enough for most adults.
When doctors or government officials recommend getting 1200-1500
mg of calcium per day, they do not mean it should all come from
supplements. Most people get 400-600 mg calcium daily in their
diet.
Thus, most experts recommend no more than 500-800 mg of
calcium in a supplement, unless specifically prescribed by a
health professional.

Why don't you use Ester C in your Formula? I've read it is superior to plain old vitamin ascorbic acid.
Ester C is a trade-marked vitamin C that is mainly calcium
ascorbate with small amounts of vitamin C metabolites, and
experts say it is not superior. The manufacturer claims Ester
C(TM) is better absorbed and utilized by the body, but no
published study finds this to be true, says leading vitamin C
researcher Balz Frei, Ph.D., director of the Linus Pauling
Institute at Oregon State University.
On the other hand, a small published study showed Ester C
was no better absorbed by the body than plain ascorbic acid. "I
don't recommend Ester C, as it has no advantages over plain
vitamin C supplements, and may have unknown adverse effects."
says Dr. Frei.
Also, according to Dr. Frei, synthetic ascorbic acid
(vitamin C) and natural ascorbic acid are identical in their
biological effects in the body. Natural is not superior.

Are your supplements approved by the Food and Drug Administration?
The Food and Drug Administration does not approve dietary supplements, as they do prescription drugs. However, we comply with all FDA regulations concerning safety and label requirements for dietary supplements.

What makes your Multi-Nutrient Formula superior to other multi-vitamin-mineral pills, such as Centrum?
My Formula is designed to provide more than the mere survival
doses of 100 percent of the Daily Value in typical
multi-vitamins. This may correct deficiencies, but do not provide
higher doses needed for "optimal" health and longevity, as my
Formula does
Further my Formula includes high doses of specific
antioxidants, such as green tea, lutein, lycopene, grape seed
extract and ginkgo, shown to help support health as you age.
For example, our Multi-Nutrient Formula contains 40 times
more lutein than Centrum Silver.

Why does your Multi-Nutrient Formula omit potassium, iodine, vitamin K and some other ingredients that are sometimes in other multis?
I designed the Formula to supply what I find necessary for
myself, family, friends and most adults, as determined by current
research.
I do not pad it, as some companies do, with a long list of
insignificant doses of nutrients, hoping that will persuade you
to buy it. For example, it seems needless to me to include a
negligible 10 mg of potassium when you get 400 mg from eating a
banana.
Nor is there evidence that Americans need iodine in a
supplement. Some people are allergic to it.
Vitamin K may interact with blood thinners, such as
coumadin, which is a common drug among older people. Vitamin K is
plentiful in leafy greens.

Can I take other herbal supplements such as ginkgo, ginseng, and St. John's wort in combination with your formulas?
Certainly. However, if you are on medication or have a health problem, please consult a health professional before adding my formula or high doses of any nutrient or herbal remedy.
What can I do if I have trouble swallowing your Multi-Nutrient Formula pills?
You can use our Multi-Nutrient Formula Fruit-Flavored Powder Mix. It contains the same 28 ingredients as the pills. You dissolve the powder in water, milk, juice, or yogurt and drink it twice a day. You can also add antioxidant-rich berries and other fruits to make a smoothie. The powder mix is a convenient and great-tasting alternative to our pills--some of the time or all of the time.

What if your supplements do not agree with me? For example, if I feel they upset my stomach or give me a headache.
Although we have received very few complaints from people
who say they find the supplements unpleasant, in unusual cases
for individual reasons, people may have a negative reaction to a
supplement.
If you find one of our supplements disagreeable, you should
stop taking it and return it for a refund.
A tip: do not take vitamins on an empty stomach. That causes
stomach upset in some people.
Also, if you are not used to high magnesium, or have a
magnesium deficiency, as many people do, a high dose of 350 mg in
the Multi Nutrient Formula might cause temporary diarrhea. It
usually clears up as your body adapts to the magnesium. You can
work up to a full dose by taking only 3 caplets per day at first,
and adding the others gradually.
