Product Overview

Green tea is produced from the Camellia sinensis plant (the same plant from which black tea is produced). Green tea is harvested when its antioxidant content is at its peak. Unlike black tea, the leaves are then immediately steamed before oxidation occurs. This results in tea leaves that are incredibly rich in powerful antioxidant polyphenols.

An expanse of clinical research demonstrates that these antioxidant polyphenols — called catechins — offer a broad spectrum of protection against free radical damage. Green tea's catechins also act as antiviral and antibacterial agents, immune boosters, anti-inflammatories, fat burners and overall inhibitors of the aging process. Green tea's numerous health benefits are largely attributed to a substance called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), a catechin unique to green tea which appears to be its most active constituent.

Studies show that in order to get the full benefits of drinking green tea, you need to drink at least three cups of brewed green tea per day. Many people miss out on its unique benefits because they don't like the taste or because they don't want to bother with brewing it from loose tea or tea bags. (Instant and bottled teas are usually lacking in antioxidants.) We wanted to make it easy to get a beneficial daily dose, so we formulated our Green Tea Extract, which provides the same amount of antioxidant catechins found in three average cups of green tea. Our standardized, decaffeinated extract also contains an exceptionally high concentration of EGCG.

Drinking green tea for health is an ancient practice, and we certainly recommend it. However, an analysis of commercial green teas found that certain brands had only half the antioxidants as others! Taking a standardized green tea extract daily is an excellent way to ensure that you are getting consistent amounts of green tea's beneficial antioxidants. Green tea extract is considered extremely safe, and research has shown that even very high concentrations of EGCG have no adverse effects. If you want to get the antioxidant equivalent of six cups of green tea daily, you can safely take two capsules of our Green Tea Extract per day.
