Product Overview
Grape seed extract is an extraordinarily powerful antioxidant substance derived from the skin surrounding the seeds of red grapes. It is rich in proanthocyanidins, one of the most beneficial types of polyphenols (water-soluble free radical-fighting compounds found in nature). Grape seed extract is considered among the best natural sources of polyphenols because it contains oligomeric proanthocyanidins, or OPCs, which have been shown to be extremely effective at fighting specific free radicals. Research has shown that these polyphenols may have up to 50 times the free radical fighting activity of vitamins C and E!
The OPCs found in grape seed extract have also been shown to help promote the structural strength of blood vessels and to help stabilize and maintain collagen and elastin, two proteins found in connective tissue that supports skin, joints and muscles. By nourishing blood vessel walls and performing other renewing functions, grape seed extract helps promote cardiovascular health and immune system balance.

Grape Seed Extract
Extracts from the skin surrounding the seeds of red grapes contain proanthocyanidins, one of the most beneficial groups of plant flavonoids. These powerful antioxidants have been shown to have up to 50 times the free radical fighting activity of vitamins C and E. Proanthocyanidins are particularly effective at fighting against free radicals because their chemical structure allows them to be incorporated into cell membranes in the body and to protect the cell from damage by both fat- and water-soluble free radicals. These antioxidants are thought to offer protection against heart disease, cancer, accelerated aging and other diseases linked to oxidative damage.
Several studies have indicated that heart disease is less frequent in people who consume higher levels of dietary flavonoids. (Mutat Res. 2003 Feb-Mar;523-524:87-97. Grape seed extract has also been shown to prevent cholesterol accumulation on artierial wall and reduce one's risk of atherosclerosis. (Int J Clin Pract. 2006 Nov;60(11):1484-92.)

Citrus Bioflavonoids
Bioflavonoids are found in many plant foods, including all citrus fruits. Citrus bioflavonoids include hesperidin, quercitrin, rutin and tangeritin. They posses antioxidant activity and are known to increase the absorption and utilization of vitamin C. Also, citrus bioflavonoids may work in conjunction with vitamin C to help protect and preserve the structure of capillaries. One particular study has shown that rutin may be able to decrease capillary fragility and permeability.
